Some days I really hate my job. It comes complete with people who really believe that the world owes them something, anything, everything! My job also comes with a complete list of limitations that I have to work within which makes the job that much more difficult. I went into work and had a message on my phone that said that there was a new mother the hospital. Her son, Isaiah, was born with a terrible birth defect and passed away a few minutes after arriving into this world. The mother was distraught; the staff was having a hard time with her. To add insult to injury, the family did not have the support or the resources to bury their baby. She needed help.
I went to her room and talked with her. She apologized for her "temper tantrum" as she put it, and said that she didn't know what she was going to do. I promised that I would do my best to help, not knowing at the time what is was I could do. My co-worker had already been on the phone with one organization who said they wouldn't help because Isaiah had such a terrible defect. I was stunned by that comment. I spent the rest of the day on the phone and the internet looking for resources. For the family not to have closure with their son was unthinkable to me.
I came across a web site for parents of stillborns, the MISS Foundation. I e-mailed them hoping for a telephone number, anything to get me to that next step. I told them about the situation, what I had done, and what I needed. And then I said a silent prayer and hit the send button. Within 2 hours, I had the help that I needed. Thanks to this wonderful organization, Isaiah's family will have the peace and closure that they need. I am still in awe of this miracle, and to me, it is a miracle for this family that unmet friends reached out to this family in such a dark time.
The MISS Foundation is an organization for families of still born children. They help with support for families, educational materials for both professionals and non-professionals, gentle help in planning of the funeral (that guide I printed out for the Mom, she was so grateful for that help.), and so much more. This group runs on volunteerism and donations. Please visit them at : http://missfoundation.org/

Thank you for sharing this. I will visit the website and contribute. Your story really touched my heart.
what a good thing you did today for that poor woman..some people believe that good deeds are rewarded back to you ten fold.
Thank you for posting this. The MISS Foundation is a resource for all families when children die, any age and any cause. I worked with a mom today whose 43 year old "baby" died... the death of a child is always tragic beyond words.
Thank you for all you did to help this family.
